iStand

The name is a play on the phrases used by Apple to name their products (iPhone, iPad, iMac, etc.). As a daily user of both the iPad and the iPhone, I needed a place to put them while I work. As an industrial designer, I took on this challenge and successfully produced a product that is functional and looks good as well. This project taught me through trial and error about the perfect angle of iPad usability and manufacturing constraints.

First Variaton:I took this project as a personal one, so I went ahead and designed a solution without really taking serious measurements. moreover, some of the tolerances were a bit off, I discovered that the phone I had didnt fit within the box and I had to take it apart and the final 3D printed product was functional but didnt look good.

Sketching the face: I sketched the face according to how the measurements lined up after testing with the first printed prototype, as a result I decreased the length of the iPad stand and also accounted for an object catcher for headphones, keys, etc.

Extruding and refinements: After extruding the sketch, I created a space for the catcher as well as removing the top off the box for where the phone lives.
